Toyota Gives Back to Local Communities

At Toyota, commitment to customers goes beyond striving to provide vehicles with the best quality, value and advanced features in the industry; it includes recognizing the communities that support Toyota and its dealers.

“We have an obligation to share back some of our success with the communities where we work, play and conduct business,” said Jim Lentz, president and chief operating officer of Toyota Motor Sales U.S.A., Inc. (TMS).

To put that into practice, Toyota is expressing its appreciation through several community programs, including the Dealer Match Program and the “100 Cars for Good” initiative.

With the Dealer Match Program, Toyota has pledged to match up to $10,000 donated to as many as four local charities by each dealership across the nation. Several dealers have already taken Toyota up on the offer, including Longo Toyota in El Monte, California, which has a rich history of supporting local charities, and Grappone Automotive Group in Bow, New Hampshire, which launched a Facebook contest to get community members to pick a lucky $20,000 recipient from more than 70 local nonprofit organizations.

Adding to Toyota’s history of donating cars to charitable organizations, the 100 Cars for Good initiative will salute do-gooders by giving 100 cars over the course of 100 days to organizations that could use a new set of wheels. A new joint venture of TMS and Toyota Motor North America (TMA), 100 Cars for Good also enlists Facebook members – this time, to decide what organizations will receive a new ride each day starting in May.

“Consideration will be given to each of the applicants’ needs, potential impact of the vehicle, geographic diversity, diversity of populations served and diversity of the organization’s mission,” said Michael Rouse, TMS vice president of philanthropy and community affairs. “We’re very excited about the scope and reach of this program.”
